First Night celebrations around the world are becoming more popular with each passing year. If you've never attended First Night Alexandria, you don't know what you're missing!

First Night Alexandria is a celebration of the new year through the performing arts. Coffee shops, retail stores, hotels, museums and public buildings are turned into performance venues to showcase incredible local and regional talent. Recent performers at First Night Alexandria include clowns, face painters and magicians for children to a world-class Scottish fiddler, a Grammy-nominated rock and roll guitarist and a classical cellist for adults.

For a small fee for adults (children 12 and under are free), you have access to all the entertainment, more than 100 performances, all evening! Everything is within easy walking distances. And we celebrate the dawning of a new year at midnight with a spectacular fireworks display on the grounds of the George Washington Masonic Memorial!

FIRST NIGHT HISTORY! 

First Night revives the ancient traditions of marking the passage of time in a present day context. It was created by a group of civic-minded artists in Boston as a meaningful alternative to traditional New Year's Eve revelry in 1976. Each year thereafter, other communities began to ask the founding members of First Night Boston for assistance starting their own similar celebration on New Year's Eve.

First Night Alexandria began in 1994.
