Musikanten, a choral chamber ensemble, was formed in 1979.  The group performs "mostly a cappella" music from the entire choral repertoire, specializing in works of the Renaissance and compositions of 20th and 21st century american composers.  Their First Night Alexandria performances are a preview of their April tour to Vienna, selected from works by Woollen, Evett, Ives, Whitacre, Copland, Dinerstein, Fine, Hawley and Hoh.

Musikanten performed to enthusiastic audiences in Ismir and Istanbul, Turkey in September 2010.  The ensemble is looking forward to its 20th international tour in April 2012, traveling to Vienna, Eisenstadt and Bratislava.  Musikanten Montana, the ensemble's "western wing", received a prestigious Montana Cultural Trust grant of nearly $8000 for 2012-13 to help underwrite its Montana Early Music Festival productions.
