Contest Opens Soon!
Entries due at the end of October with voting in November and finalists announced before Christmas!
The competition will begin at 7:00 pm with last year’s winner, Primary Colors, performing a 20-minute opening set. After their performance, each of the finalists will perform two songs of no more than ten minutes total. At 9:30 pm Keira Moran will perform a 45-minute set of songs she has orchestrated specifically for this evening. Keira will be accompanied by members of the TC Williams High School Orchestra. Following Keira’s performance, the winner of the Battle will be announced.
The judging will be final. Each finalist will receive a cash prize; the winner will be offered a contract to perform on December 31, 2018 for $500.
Keira first debuted her original music in third grade with her hit singles, “Halloween Nights” and “Chicken Burrito.” Since then, her craft has become more refined and in June of 2011, Keira won the International Smashtune Songwriting Contest for her song “When I’m With You.” The grand prize was a trip to Hawaii where Keira was a finalist in the Kauai Music Festival’s Songwriting Competition. She was voted “Favorite Part of First Night Alexandria” in January 2012 and later was awarded the Miss Nova Music Award. Keira also wrote the score for the film “American Financial” which subsequently won multiple industry awards. In 2016, Keira graduated from the Frost School of Music in only 3 ½ years where she studied Music Business and Songwriting.
Vaughn is a native of North Carolina and earned his BM in Music Education and MM in Jazz Studies at East Carolina University under the tutelage of his mentor, Carroll V Dashiell as well as artist and distinguished professor, Bob Mintzer. Vaughn returns to campus often as an invited lecturer and performer. He has also been a featured conductor for the North Carolina Regional Honors jazz ensemble. Mr. Ambrose is the Director of Jazz at St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes Upper School in Alexandria VA. As a highly sought after educator he serves as guest clinician and soloist with various schools and ensembles nationally and internationally. Thanks to his unwavering dedication to the development of young artists, in 2005 Mr. Ambrose developed the District X all District Honors Jazz Band weekend, a program that has continued to thrive since inception.
