Special thanks go out to Keira Moran and her father, Jim Moran.  They are the brains and sweat behind the Battle of the Local Stars.  This was their final year of organizing this event.

Huge thanks also go out to Keira.  She performed brilliantly with the TC Williams orchestra.  Keira wrote the music for each instrument that accompanied her.  Great job everyone.  Thank you!


Keira Moran

Born and raised in Alexandria VA, Keira Moran first made her musical mark when she won the 2011 International Smashtune Songwriting Contest with her song “When I’m With You.” The grand prize was a trip to Hawaii where Keira was a finalist in the Kauai Music Festival’s Songwriting Contest. Later that year, her debut album “Wondergirl” was released on iTunes, which includes pop/rock songs recorded in Nashville and the D.C. area. Keira was subsequently voted “Favorite Part of First Night Alexandria,” awarded the Miss Nova Music Award for embodying “the spirit of music and community service,” and won the “18 in America” Songwriting Contest (Gannett/WUSA9). Seven-time Grammy nominee Graham Edwards said that Keira is “an exciting musical talent. I look forward to seeing her career blossom both as a songwriter and an artist.”

Keira recently moved to Los Angeles, California where she is writing for record label “Brown Shuga Music.” She is also working alongside songwriter/producer RedOne who has a staggering eight Grammy nominations and two wins for his work with Lady Gaga. Rob Gabriel

Rob Gabriel has been a part of the music scene in the Washington, D. C. area for the better part of 30 years. Rob has performed professionally with Soul, Motown, R&B, Western Punkabilly, Rockabilly, Country and Blues bands. He helped produce a CD and corresponding music video to critical acclaim. He finally found a home in the Billy and Bob Classic Country Band.

Vaughn Ambrose

Vaughn is a native of North Carolina and earned his BM in Music Education and MM in Jazz Studies at East Carolina University under the tutelage of his mentor, Carroll V Dashiell as well as artist and distinguished professor, Bob Mintzer. Vaughn returns to campus often as an invited lecturer and performer. He has also been a featured conductor for the North Carolina Regional Honors jazz ensemble. Mr. Ambrose is the Director of Jazz at St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes Upper School in Alexandria VA. As a highly sought after educator he serves as guest clinician and soloist with various schools and ensembles nationally and internationally. Thanks to his unwavering dedication to the development of young artists, in 2005 Mr. Ambrose developed the District X all District Honors Jazz Band weekend, a program that has continued to thrive since inception.

He has been the recipient of numerous teaching honors: Yale University Teaching Award; Northern Virginia Educational Leadership Award; Veterans of Foreign Wars National Citizenship Education Teacher Post Recognition Award; Alexandria Education Partnership Excellence in Education Teacher Award; Alexandria City Alex Award for Outstanding Contribution to Arts Education.
