New Year's Eve Ideas for Families with Young Kids

2 p.m. – Start the day at the Torpedo Factory Art Center and pick up a First Night Alexandria Fun Hunt clue sheet before setting off on a scavenger hunt adventure around Old Town. Not into scavenger hunts? Partake in interactive art activities in the Torpedo Factory’s great hall and The Art League Gallery or explore Alexandria’s past in the Alexandria Archeology Museum.  Also in the main hall visit animals available for adoption from the Animal Welfare Lague of Alexandria!

6 p.m. – Beside the Durant Arts Center is the Jefferson Houston School, where families are invited to delight in festivities like model sailboat making, carnival games, ThinkFun games, a moon bounce and other kiddie carnival games from 3:00 and 9:00 p.m.

OR - If you live in or near Del Ray and want to avoid the craziness of Old Town, take the kids to the Mount Vernon Recreation Center for an Old Fashioned Carnival from 6:00-9:00 pm!

7 p.m. – Return to the Durant Arts Center for a free shuttle to the George Washington Masonic Memorial, where you’ll find activities like face paintingballoon sculptures by friendly clowns, music and dancing.

At Downtown Baptist Church you'll find multiple levels of fun performances and activities for children and The Little Theatre of Alexandria brings back that magic kinda guy, Mike Rose.

Midnight – Head outside and view the fireworks bursting over the Potomac River!
